Team KR MotoGP Team KR is 20 years in MotoGP racing, and it is founded by MotoGP racing legend Kenny Roberts, also known as King Kenny, the man who took three consecutive titles in 500ccm category.
In first years of it's existance, team had success running factory Yamahas, before Roberts has decided to take things in his hands and build MotoGP machine from scrach. In 1996, he founded GP Motorsports UK Corporation, which has made three cylinder MotoGP racer KR3, which was in MotoGP racing for seven years. KR3 Machine had its best results in a year when MotoGP class made transition from 500ccm two strokes to 990ccm four strokes, as it was one of rare two strokes to take pole position (Australia) in the time when it was obvious that four stroke machines are superrior.
Once again, Roberts decided to enter four stroke MotoGP era with its own 5 cylinder engine, using experiences from KR3 and knowledge of F1 engineers working in team engineering headquarters in Brandbury. Team has ben backed by Malaysian car manufactured Proton, and worked on new MotoGP engine closely with Lotus, name well known in world of car racing. Despite great effort, KR 5 cylinder engine has shown poor performance on the track, and team finally decided to give up this project after 2004 season.
In 2005, Team KR started cooperation with KTM, using their engines in KR chasis.
