Camel Yamaha Tech 3 Team was created in 1989 by Herve Poncharal, with Guy Coulon and Bernard Martignac.
Team Has obtained 250ccm title in 2000, and did it in great style: Olivier Jacque was 1st, with Shinya Nakano 2nd.
In 2001 team moved into MotoGP class, with same riders as in 2000, and had mixed fortunes: while Shinya Nakano finished championship in 5th position, Olivier Jacque missed most of the season due to injuries sustained in pre-season test, but managed to finish season in 15th.
Year 2002 introduced new 4-stroke machines into MotoGP class, and both of riders spent almost whole season on old two-strokes, except last few races when they got four stroke Yamaha M1. Anyway, that was just enought for Jacque and Nakano to finish season in 10th and 11th, respectivelly.
Season 2003 was another step back for the Gauloises Yamaha, as team riders Olivier Jacque and Alex Barros strugled whole season with M1, finishing season in 12th and 9th places, respectively.
In season 2004, Yamaha decided to start another page in its history, and contracted Valentino Rossi as official team rider, under colors of Gauloises Fortuna Yamaha. Despite YZR-M1 being still imferrior to Honda, Valentino Rossi proved once more that MotoGP is sport where rider makes difference: he won World MotoGP championship title for third time in succession, this time with total of 9 wins, most wins for an rider in Yamaha MotoGP history. He also brought Gauloises Fortuna Yamaha title in team championship, making team success even greater. Not only arrival of Rossi in Yamaha was significant fact for the team in 2004 MotoGP season: Rossi also managed to bring Jeremy Burges with him to Yamaha, one of famous MotoGP chief mechanics, who in season 2004 made directions of Yamaha YZR-M1 development. In this season, Rossi had Carlos Checa as team mate, who finished championship in distant 7th place, and gathering with other two Yamaha riders less points in total than Rossi, describing previously stated importance of rider in MotoGP in best way...
For season 2005, team again has Rossi as main rider, this time with Colin Edwards as team-mate. Valentino Rossi once again won championship in dominant style. Team also won team championship by close margin.
In 2006, team obtained new title sponsor, Camel. Team stayed same as in 2005, expecting to repeat success from 2005.
