Troy Bayliss-250ccm biography

As many other MotoGP riders, Troy Bayliss felt taste of motorcycle racing on dirt bikes, at the age of 10. After some time on dirt and motocross bikes, Troy spent one part of his life in surfing, bicycle racing and similar sport activities, before deciding to try road racing in 1992, at age of 23. He rode Kawasaki KR1 in the 250 Sports Production class in his first year of road racing, and in same year he won few Australian National Sports Production 250ccm races. After moving to bigger bikes in 1993, Troy Bayliss got his chance to briefly return to 250ccm in 1997, and did that in world championship 250ccm race held in Philip Island as wildcard rider for Suzuki, finishing in impressive 6th place.

Troy Bayliss-Superbike biography

Troy Bayliss started racing with Kawasaki 600 in 1993 in Australian national championship. In following season, 1994, Bayliss finished 6th in Australian national championship in 600ccm class, and took his first win in this category in Bathurst.
Year 1995 was even more successful for Troy Bayliss, as he took 2nd position in Australian 600ccm championship. This success opened doors of Team Kawasaki Australia to Troy Bayliss, and he entered Australian SuperBike championship in 1996, finishing his debut season in 3rd place. In following season, 1997, Bayliss finished 2nd in same championship on Ansett Air Freight Suzuki. In same year, he got wildcard ride in World Superbike series in Philip Island, and impressed the world by taking 5th place in both races.
In 1998 Troy Bayliss entered one of most prestigeous Superbike championships, British Superbike series, riding for Team GSE Ducati. Bayliss finished this season in 8th place, just as preparation to take British Superbike Championship title in 1999, by taking 6 wins and 14 podium finishes.
Year 2000 saw Troy Bayliss moving to American AMA Superbike series, where he impressed by taking pole position on his first appearance in series, but crashed during the race. He repeated pole position in second race, which was canceled due to weather conditions. At this time, World Superbike legend Carl Fogarty had bad accident in Philip Island, and Troy Bayliss was chosen as replacement by Ducati Infostrada team, role which he accepted and proved to be best choice. In this season, Bayliss took two wins and finished World Superbike championship in 6th, despite having a lot of crashes and not finishing even 6 races.
One season in World Superbike championship series was enough for Bayliss to prepare for ultimate goal: World Superbike title. And he did that in 2001! Year 2002 saw Troy Bayliss fighting to defend his Superbike title, but this time he did not succeed, as he lost it in breath-taking last race in Imola from his great rival Colin Edwards.

After proving himself on Ducati in World Superbike series, Troy Bayliss entered MotoGP World Championship in 2003 with Ducati on brand-new Desmosedici prototype. In ultimate class of motorcycle racing, MotoGP, Troy Bayliss made success that no one has expected: he finished 6th in championship, took two front-row starts and three podium finishes.
Year 2004 was year of struggle for Troy Bayliss. After great success in 2003 season, it seems that Desmosedici GP04 machine development gone in wrong direction for almost whole season, before some improvements are made just at the season end, which gave Bayliss the chance to finish 3rd in last race in Valencia. However, this was not enough to impress Ducati Team owners, as he finished championship in 14th place, so Baylis was released from Ducati, and most likely he is going to ride for Camel Honda in 2005.
