2007-10-07  WSBK: Haga takes French double, Toseland takes title

James Toseland lifts 2007 WSBK titleDramatic racing weekend in France saw Briton James Toseland taking his second World Superbike title of the career by only two points from closest challenger and today's double race winner - Noriyuki Haga. This was first WSBK title for Ten Kate Honda team after five years of fighting. Noriyuki Haga, who started weekend 29 points behind Toseland, had fantastic weekend and won both races in dominant way, but this was not enough for the title.

In first race, Toseland had first corner incident which throw him out of the race, and he rejoined last, working his way through the field to finish race in 7th place. In second race, Toseland once again was not looked like someone who is fighting for the title - finishing race in hard fought 6th place, which was still enough to keep 2 point led to Haga and win the title. From next year, Toseland departs to MotoGP championship, with Tech 3 Yamaha team.

Max Biaggi scored 6th and 2nd places today, which was enough for Roman to finish 3rd in the championship in his debut season in World Superbikes. Last year's champion, Troy Bayliss, finished race one in 2nd place and race 2 in 5th, which brough him 4th spot in the championship.

James Toseland:
It’s about time! I have led the championship from Qatar and what an incredible championship it has been. I think this has been the best World Superbike season I have ever experienced and I have been riding in the series for seven years now. The standard of riding has been incredible and I have enjoyed battling with all of them – Bayliss, Corser, Biaggi, Haga – the list goes on. I have been pushed to the absolute limit and to win the championship by just two points is unbelievable.

To get pole position and the title at my last Superbike round is great. This is what I live for, it’s what really matters to me and I wanted it so much. This is my way of saying thank you to everyone who has supported me through my Superbike career. I can leave for MotoGP with my head held high and the knowledge that I gave this championship my all until the very last race.
