2008-04-06 WSBK: Checa creates drama in Valencia
Be first to comment this story
Exciting two Superbike races in Valencia today saw two different winners, both of them getting that victory by courtesy of Carlos Checa. In first race, winner was Lorenzo Lanzi, who was in race-long battle with Troy Bayliss for 3rd place, but then Carlos Checa tried to overtake race-long race leader, Max Neukirchner in last corner, fell down and took Neukirchner with him. Bayliss this way took second place that was great for the championship, with Troy Corser completing podium in race 1. Fonsi Nieto took the role of best Suzuki finisher, in front of Checa who managed to rejoin race and finish it in 5th.
In second race, we saw return of Noriyuki Haga, who ended race in first place. Once again, all attention was on Carlos Checa, who steamed from behind and get into the lead, but then suddenly started dropping places after his traction control stopped working. After few laps of struggle, Checa managed to find right button on his Honda and get back on the pace, but this time it was too late to catch leading duo of Haga and Bayliss, so he had to settle in 3rd place. Japanese Kiyonari shown why he deserves WSBK ride by taking 4th place, with Troy Corser finishing in 5th.
