2007-05-27  WSBK: Bayliss wins race 1 at Silverstone
Be first to comment this story

Bayliss fights with Corser and Haga for victoryTroy Bayliss today won Superbike race 1 at Silverstone after race-long battle with Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser. Troy Bayliss was initial race leader, but soon he was overtaken by Troy Corser, who led race until lap 10, when Bayliss decided to go in front and try to escape from Corser and Haga. Despite leading from that point to the end of the race, Bayliss was unable to set constant rhythm and break-away. Haga was able to pass team-mate Corser for second place, gaining some valuable championship points. Corser ended race in 3rd, again lacking some speed at the end of the race.

Superbike Championship leader James Toseland crashed in lap three while fighting for 4th place. Toseland managed to rejoin race with seriously damaged bike in 18th place, and made his way to 8th place at the end of the race, salvaging valuable points. Roberto Rolfo continued good form by finishing race in 4th place. Regis Laconi was 5th, with Max Biaggi finishing in 6th after crash of Josh Brookes.

In Championship, Noriyuki Haga reduced gap to Toseland to 23 points, with Biaggi staying in 3rd, 13 points behind. With 13 races remaining, it seems like we may have exciting second part of Championship...
