2007-03-04  WSBK:Bayliss and Toseland dominate Phillip Island
Be first to comment this story

Troy Bayliss edges James toseland for victory in race 1Troy Bayliss returned to top podium step in WSBK race 1 at Phillip Island, as he edged James Toseland in an exciting race. In race 2, two riders swap their positions, with James Toseland taking second victory in 2007 and increasing his championship lead to 16 points to second placed Max Biaggi.

Both races saw close battle between Bayliss and Toseland for first place. In first race, Bayliss trailed Toseland by lap 18, in which he took first place and never let it go until end of the race. Two riders were closelly followed by Troy Corser, but as his tyres wore out, he was caught by Max Biaggi who finished race in third place. Corser was also passed by team-mate Noriyuki Haga, eventually setting in 5th place in race 1.

World Superbike race 2 at Phillip Island had similar scenario, but this time James Toseland managed to defend his first place, which he held for most of the race, despite being constantly pressured by Bayliss. Bayliss was right behind Toseland through the race, putting all his cards on table in last 4 laps, but Toseland was too strong this time. Troy Corser rode quiet race until last few laps, before he got in third position in which he completed race. Noriyuki Haga completed race 2 in 3rd place, great duel with team-mate Corser, who ended race in 5th. Max Biaggi, who had poor start of race 2, chased leading group of 4 riders in first half of the race, and after joining them it seemed that he is able to do better that 4th, in which he eventually finished the race after passing Corser on finish straight.

A record 63,250 spectators have enjoyed this weekend’s racing at Phillip Island.
