2007-10-11 Two new liveries for Phillip Island
Be first to comment this story
MotoGP fans that will visit Phillip Island this weekend will have chance to see three riders and their bikes in new liveries: Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards will present Abarth livery, while Chris Vermeulen will present livery dedicated to late MotoGP champion, Barry Sheene.
Bike of Chris Vermeulen is sporting a retro paint-scheme designed to pay homage to Vermeulen’s mentor, and personal hero Barry Sheene. The livery was inspired by the Suzuki ‘XR14’ that the double Suzuki World Champion rode in the seventies. Vermeulen was joined by Barry’s son Freddie to uncover the bike in readiness for tomorrow’s first free practice session. Vermeulen also revealed his retro style race suit and new helmet design, both of which are also based on Sheene’s iconic images from days gone by.
Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards will run a special one-off livery on their bikes and leathers that has been inspired by the famous ‘Abarth' brand, a division of Fiat Automobiles SpA. The Abarth brand has been re-launched by Fiat this year with several new models and this weekend's livery is designed to celebrate that. The livery uses all the elements of the logo - the Scorpion, which is synonymous with the brand, the white and red flag and the word ‘Abarth'.
