Casey Stoner today demonstrated top form that, as we saw in previous races, usually leads to dominant race victory. Stoner set time of 1:21.582 that is better than previous qualifying record, showing once again how fast he can be when his Desmosedici works perfectly. Only other rider that managed to get into 1.21 bracket and within 0.4 seconds off the Stoner's time was Alex De Angelis. Colin Edwards was fast in both qualifying sessions, posting 3rd fastest time in Sachsenring free practice, also being the last rider within a second of Stoner's time.
Valentino Rossi was 4th fastest in first day of German racing weekend, lacking more than a second to match pace of Casey Stoner. Rossi was unable to improve his time from FP1, which was also the case with Dani Pedrosa, who set 5th time of the day. Dani Pedrosa crashed in FP2, fortunately without injuries. Jorge Lorenzo, who is finally fully fit, set 6th fastest time.
Shinya Nakano in 7th place leads train of four Hondas, with Hayden, Dovizioso and De Puniet behind. Dovizioso suffered high-speed lowside, but he was fortunate enough to avoid any injuries.
