Casey Stoner continued to dominate at Sachsenring today, as he got pole position for tomorrow's German Grand Prix. Casey Stoner set his pole position time in his first attempt, and it stayed untouched until the end of the session. Dani Pedrosa was biggest threat to Stoner, as he set series of fast laps, having fastest times in first two or three sectors, but loosing it at fourth sector. Pedrosa eventually qualified second, 0.005 seconds behind Stoner. Marco Melandri returned to the top, at least in qualifying, taking third spot on the grid, 0.013 seconds behind Stoner.
Randy de Puniet qualified in excellent 4th place, as usually being first rider to use qualifying tyres, somewhere in the middle of the session. He also continued to do another of his traditional things, not so popular (at least not in his garage) - crashing, this time at the end of the session. John Hopkins recovered from average practices to take 5th position on the grid, in front of Valentino Rossi, who once again seems unable to find answer to speed of Casey Stoner.
Loris Capirossi qualified in 7th, looking slightly better on his Ducati. Alex Barros grabbed 8th position despite injuries, in front of fantastic Sylvian Guintoli, who brought his Dunlop shoed Yamaha inside top 10. Shinya Nakano completed top 10 qualifiers in Germany today.
Partially due to nature and length of the Sachsenring, this was one of closest qualifying, as top 16 riders were covered by only 0.815 seconds! Also, we may notice domination of Bridgestone, which has 6 riders in top 10, with Michelin with only 2, and Dunlop with one rider.
