Casey Stoner continued with progress at Sachsenring in third free practice today, as he set another record lap of 1:22.656, which was too quick for other riders, which all stayed in 1:23's. Second fastest today was Stoner's team-mate, Loris Capirossi, who finally find extra speed to return to the top of the timesheets. Another rider returning from the back of the grid was Marco Melandri, who ended FP3 in 3rd place, around half second behind Stoner.
Randy de Puniet continued tradition of great practice results, this time ending day in 4th place. Carlos Checa was 5th, in front of John Hopkins in 6th. Valentino Rossi was unable to do better than 7th, setting time slower than in FP2. Colin Edwards joined his team mate in 8th, in front of Chris Vermeulen in 9th. Nicky Hayden managed to improve after unlucky first day and set 10th fastest time of the FP3.
