Once again Casey Stoner was the man who set the pace through the free practice session in Qatar. Stoner was lowering times and just when his rivals come close to him, he lowered them again and set new target for them to reach. Again, Rossi was the man who was closest to times set by Stoner, but again Stoner was just out of reach for him, ending session just 0.096 seconds behind. This time, duo was joined by Loris Capirossi, who managed to get just 0.288 seconds short of time set by Stoner. Jorge Lorenzo was just behind Capirossi (0.051sec), being the last rider under 1.57 mark. Marco Melandri impressed everyone as he set 5th time on Hayate Kawasaki, 0.825 seconds behind Stoner. Andrea Dovizioso was best Honda rider in 6th place, at the same time last rider within one second of Stoner's time.
Chris Vermeulen set 7th time of the FP2, while Colin Edwards, who was in top in first part of the session, had to settle in 8th place. Randy De Puniet took 9th spot in timesheets, while James Toseland completed top 10 fastest riders in Qatar.
