2007-10-14  Stoner and Capirossi taking double for Ducati at Phillip Island

Stoner, Capirossi and Rossi on the podium at Phillip IslandCasey Stoner and Loris Capirossi today took double victory for Ducati at Phillip Island. This was first ever victory for Bridgestone at this track, and 9th of the season for the Stoner. Casey Stoner once again demonstrated domination to his rivals and shown them that there is still lot of work to be done by their teams to reach same level, as he ended almost 7 seconds in front of his Ducati team-mate, Capirossi. Loris Capirossi spent most of the race in 5th place, putting his card on the table from lap 18, reaching second place in lap 20 and staying there till the end of the race. Valentino Rossi was constantly between 2nd and 4th place, eventually finishing in 3rd as he was unable to defend second place from charging Capirossi.

However, it was Nicky Hayden who was only rider able to follow Stoner's pace early in the race, before frustrating engine failure forced him to retire in lap 12. Championship defense came late from Hayden, but it was really nice to see him once againg fighting for the top spot.

Dani Pedrosa had to settle in fourth place today, fighting first two thirds of the race with Marco Melandri, who started dropping places in last third in the race. Melandri eventually finished race in 10th place, obviously using his tyres too much in first part of the race - his lap times suddenly dropped for almost two seconds from lap 18.

Right after Pedrosa, Alex Barros brought third Ducati in top 5, after sitting most of the race behind Capirossi and waiting for his early charging rivals to get into tyre troubles.

Bad start left Randy de Puniet in distant 11th place at the end of the second lap, but this time French rider had enough patience to bring his Kawasaki to the finish in decent 6th place. Hopefully, this may be start of the transformation for de Puniet from fast crasher to fast finisher.

John Hopkins managed to overcome bad qualifying and finish race in decent 7th place, around five seconds in front of team-mate Vermeulen, who also significantly improved from the start of the race. Colin Edwards finished in distant 9th place, leaving us with nothing to comment. As we already said, Melandri completed top 10.
