Following news on factory team contract and boosted by advantage of home Soil, Ben Spies secured pole position in Indianapolis, showing once again great potential of American rider. This was first time (but far from last, if you ask me) that Jorge Lorenzo was beaten for pole position by his team-mate for next year. Lorenzo settled in second position on the grid, while Nicky Hayden provide more joy to U.S. spectators.

Andrea Dovizioso was constantly fast through the session, but ended it in 4th place, in front of team-mate Pedrosa. Casey Stoner was unable to match pace from previous sessions and qualified in 6th place. Valentino Rossi had second crash of the day in last minutes of the session, qualifying in 7th place. Marco Simoncelli qualified 8th, in front of Colin Edwards and Loris Capirossi.
