2006-10-27 Rossi wins in FP1 dogfight at Valencia

Valentino Rossi edged Casey Stoner for fastest time of the first free practice for only 0.006 seconds. Today's first free practice session was one of the closest practice sessions of the season, with first 15 riders covered by only 0.74 seconds! As we may see from session results, both key title pretenders, Rossi and Hayden, were in form today in Valencia.
Casey Stoner was sandwiched by Rossi and Hayden in second place, edging Hayden for just as little as 0.001 seconds. Loris Capirossi was right behind fastest trio today in 4th place, promissing another strong result for this weekend. Vermeulen was fastest Suzuki today in 5th place, on the track he knows well and where Suzuki's engine characteristics may suit track layout. Colin Edwards completed provisional second row from FP1 in 6th place.
Dani Pedrosa was carefull today, as he ended MotoGP free practice 1 in 7th place, in front of newly crowned Superbike World Champion, Troy Bayliss, in respectable 8th place. Radny De Puniet was once more faster Kawasaki, in front of Marco Melandri who completed top 10 fastest riders of FP1.
