2009-10-24 Rossi to start first title attempt from pole position

Valentino Rossi will start Malaysian Grand Prix from pole position, in his first attempt to win 2009 MotoGP title. Rossi took pole position in Sepang by setting new pole position record, improving his own time from 2006. set on 990cc machine. Jorge Lorenzo continued good qualifying record, this time 0.569 seconds behind Rossi. Dani Pedrosa set 3rd fastest time, 0.167 seconds behind his Spanish rival, while last of the fast was Casey Stoner in 4th place. Stoner was at the same time last rider within one second from Rossi.
Unlike in Australia, Loris Capirossi set 5th time on his Rizla Suzuki, while his team-mate Vermeulen ended qualifying in 14th place. Toni Elias once again shown solid performance in 6th, ahead of gradually improving Nicky Hayden and Randy De Puniet. Colin Edwards ended day in not so great 9th place, while Alex De Angelis completed top 10 qualifiers in hot Sepang.
