Be first to comment this story

Rossi wins MotoGP opener in QatarAgainst our expectations, and certainly against expectations of the Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi was the winner of the 2010 MotoGP opener in Qatar. This victory for Rossi came in only realistic way - as a gift from Casey Stoner, who fell in 5th  lap while leading race and fading in distance from his rivals. Stoner  needed several opening laps to get in front after bad start, but once he settled in front Stoner started setting fantastic pace and then lost front and fell. Meanwhile, Rossi  was involved in battle for second place with Pedrosa and Hayden, soon getting in front and leading race almost the end.

Pedrosa, who had another fantastic start and led race in first corner, soon stared loosing pace and positions, finishing race in disappointing 7th. Opposite to his team-mate, Andrea Dovizioso had fantastic race, spending most of it behind Rossi and in few moments looking able to fight for victory. Dovizioso also had to battle with fantastic Hayden, who resurrected in this race and just missed podium by split of a second fron Dovizioso, who utilized top speed of Honda to get third place on start-finish line.

However, despite great race, Dovizioso and Hayden had to settle behind Jorge Lorenzo, who overcame pain and came from distant fourth place to second at the end of the race, completing success of the Fiat Yamaha team.

Ben Spies proved his value in this race as he took 5th place, in front of Randy de Puniet who managed to materialize great form in 6th place. Pedrosa ended in 7th, while Edwards proved to be slower than new team-mate by finishing in 8th place. Capirossi finished his 300th GP race in 9th place, in front of great rookie Hiroshi Aoyama.

Race in Qatar was dream-start of the season for Rossi, who managed to pick valuable 25 points on track on which Stoner seemed like certain winner. Lorenzo also took valuable points for championship, while it remains to be seen how Stoner will handle this psychological blow. Dovizioso, Hayden and Spies are all in line for fantastic four, five or maybe six...
