2008-05-02  Rossi sets pace in day 1 in China, Stoner follows
Be first to comment this story

Rossi sets fastest time of the day in ShanghaiValentino Rossi proved in first free practice that indeed he may end his non-winning streak in Shanghai, as he set fastest time of the day in first free practice, being the only rider to dig under 2.00 mark. Casey Stoner, who won race in Shanghai last year, set second fastest time of the day in second free practice, still being unable to reach time set by Rossi in FP1. Time set by Stoner in FP2 was best in that practice, with Rossi closely behind Stoner. Dani Pedrosa was best Michelin rider in both free practice sessions in 3rd place, in front of surprisingly 4th Shinya Nakano in 4th.

John Hopkins rode Kawasaki to 5th time of the day, hoping to step again on Chinese podium. Nicky Hayden was once again second Repsol Honda rider in 6th place, in front of Alex De Angelis in solid 7th. Loris Capirossi was once again better Suzuki in 8th, in front of Andrea Dovizioso in 9th. Colin Edwards this time did not have great start as in previous events, completing top 10 riders in Shanghai free practice.

Jorge Lorenzo had ugly high-side in first free practice, and was forced to skip FP2. As examinations in hospital show, Lorenzo suffered a chipped bone in his left ankle as well as some bruising due to heavy impact. It is still possible that Lorenzo may take part in action tomorrow.
