2006-10-15 Rossi grabs key Estoril pole

Valentino Rossi took key pole position at Estoril, as he set new qualifying record of 1:36.200. Colin Edwards completed great qualifying session for Camel Yamaha team, as he grabbed second position on the grid. Championship leader, Nicky Hayden, stayed in touch with his title rival Rossi by getting final position in front row.
Second Repsol Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa, qualified as 4th, just 0.02 seconds behind his team-mate, Hayden. Casey Stoner will start Sunday's race from middle of the second row, while American John Hopkins completes second row in 6th position.
Shinya Nakano qualified as 7th for bwin.com Grande Premio de Portugal, in front of Sete Gibernau and Carlos Checa. Loris Capirossi completed top 10 qualifiers at Estoril circuit.
Marco Melandri, who suffered crash in day 1 of free practices, qualified as 15th, showing that despite having no fractures, crash has made some consequences on his physical shape.
