2006-09-10 Rossi edges Caprossi for Sepang victory

Valentino Rossi today managed to transform pole position at Sepang to victory which brings him new hope in fight for championship title. Rossi managed to resist to strong pressure that Loris Capirossi has put on him from early stages of the race. Last lap overtaking secured 25 points for Rossi, in front of Loris Capirossi who was once again impressive.
Surprise of the day came from Dani Pedrosa, who rode this race well injured, after terrific crash in FP2. However, despite injiries that supposed to limit his movement on the bike, Pedrosa rode great race, even leading opening laps, before he settled for 3rd place, where he finished race today.
Nicky Hayden was 4th most of the race, and was unable to match the pace of his team-mate and to take few more valuable championship points. However, 13 points he earned for 4th place today were enough to keep him first in championship, 22 points in front of Pedrosa, and 26 in front of Rossi.
Sete Gibernau made solid comeback by finishing Malaysain Grand Prix in 5th place, in front of Australian Caseu Stoner. John Hopkins again brought solid result to Suzuki squad by finishing race in 6th place. Kenny Roberts edged Casey Stoner for 7th place, despite strong race start from young Australian. Melandri finished in 9th place, with Colin Edwards completing top 10 finishers.
