2007-03-25 Rossi breaks longest strike without victories in Jerez

Valentino Rossi today returned to top podium position by taking clear victory in Gran Premio bwin.com De Espana. It took only half of first lap for Rossi to get into the lead, which he never let go until the end of the race. In first half of the race, Rossi was followed by Spanish favorite, Dani Pedrosa, but somewhere around lap 14, Rossi made gap of about one second to Pedrosa and never let it go. Pedrosa eventually finished race in Second place, about 1.5 seconds clear of second Yamaha rider, Colin Edwards. Today's victory of Valentino Rossi marked his longest ever strike without victories - 5 races.
Toni Elias, another home favorite, ended race in 4th place, giving fans another reason to celebrate. Casey Stoner was unable to repeat Qatar magic and ended race in 5th place, taking valuable championship points for 5th place.Carlos Checa slipped back from third on the grid, eventually taking 6th place, in front of reigning MotoGP champion, Nicky Hayden. Hayden made great start from 11th place on the grid, but soon got into battle with Elias, Stoner and Hopkins. Elias and Stoner get in front of Hayden, while Hopkins crashed in lap 16, rejoined the race and ended it in 19th place. Hayden eventually finished race in 7th place, once again showing that title defence will be big problem for American.
Marco Melandri ended race in 8th place, in front of Chris Vermeulen and Shinya Nakano. 138000 fans once again had chance to see great race, and to enjoy Rossi's legendary post-race celebrations. This time, Rossi throw an imaginary bowling ball to nine members of his fan-club dressed as skittles, collapsing them in one shot.
