Dani Pedrosa prevented Ben Spies from making his first MotoGP pole in last minutes of qualifying, redelegating Texan to second place, which is still his best MotoGP qualifying result. Jorge Lorenzo took third position on the grid, crashing in his final attempt but escaping without injuries.

Casey Stoner was off his usuall pace during the session and final push provided him 4th place on the grid, but rear-grip problems are still to be solved for Australian. Valentino Rossi qualified 5th for Czech MotoGP race, crashing almost at the same time as his team-mate Lorenzo. Andrea Dovizioso completed second row.

American duo of Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden occupied 7th and 8th spot on the grid, just in front of rookie Hector Barbera. Loris Capirossi completed top 10 fastest riders in Brno.
