2007-01-22 MotoGP test: Suzuki riders fastest on day 1 of Sepang test

 John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen powered their brand new Rizla Suzuki GSV-Rs to the first and second fastest times respectively during the first day of testing at Sepang in Malaysia.
Hopkins recorded a best time of 2’02.27 from his 66 laps, whilst team-mate Vermeulen was just behind with a quickest time of 2’03.04 from his 46 laps. Nobuatsu Aoki is also present at the three-day test and he was the first Rizla Suzuki racer on track and completed 36 shakedown laps on the new bike.
The Rizla Suzuki GSV-R800 was seen in its final detail at Sepang today, with new engine and chassis specifications plus new bodywork styling. Hopkins, Vermeulen and the rest of the team were very happy with how the new version performed over the first day, and look forward to getting more out the bike throughout the rest of the test. The team conducted thorough Bridgestone front tyre tests and will follow that up with even more comprehensive evaluations over the next couple of days
This is the first test that all the MotoGP teams – with the exception of Ilmor - have been together with their new 800cc machines, and it will give a good indication of how the Rizla Suzuki GSV-R is developing in comparison to the other manufacturers.
