2010-04-08 MotoGP attitude - Season of great names
Be first to comment this story
After many months of pause interrupter by just three official tests, MotoGP season 2010 is about to begin on Friday in Qatar. According to names participating in this years MotoGP championship, 2010 will be one of most exciting seasons ever. However, from what we saw in pre-season testing, we may expect few surprises, but as always actual racing practice may prove our theories wrong. So,
Is there anyone who does not know that Rossi is one of main rivals this year? According to testing results, he also looks more motivated that ever to prove that he is still the best. However, list of those who want to get him off the spot number 1 is long. But only few of them look actually able to do it.
Casey Stoner is my pick number one for this role. He already shown that he can get title from Rossi, and is fully recovered to do it. He was constantly right behind or in front of Rossi in pre-season tests, so there is no reason to put him in front of other title rivals.
Jorge Lorenzo is my second choice. Lorenzo is still recovering from pre-season injuries, but we saw him in various occasions how fast is he in much worst shape, so this may not be big problem for him. However, lack of set-up data from Rossi\'s garage may be bigger problem for Jorge, so we have to wait for start of the season to see how he can handle his own set-up.
Normally, Dani Pedrosa should be number 3 pick. But, from what we saw in pre-season, there is something strange going on in Honda, so I am not sure how good Dani will be. This applies to other top Honda riders, from which I had much higher expectations before seeing test results. Marco Melandri, Marco Simoncelli, Andrea Dovizioso - from all of them I expected much more and I hope they will be able to utilize their Hondas ASAP.
But, there has to be a number three pick, and that one has just came to MotoGP. Yes, it is Ben Spies. This guy simply knows to ride bike - any bike. He has proven that in WSBK, in MotoGP wildcard rides and in pre-season testing. So, I may guarantee that he is the guy to pick some serious results this season. No big surprise for me would be to see im in place 4 in championship.
However, I hope that Honda may solve issues as season goes on, and then we may see Dani Pedrosa, Marco Melandri, Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso getting some nice results and making championship even more exciting. I believe that 2010 is the one of the MotoGP seasons with strongest rider names ever, and just hope that machinery will allow them to equally fight for the grand prize...
