 Free practice sessions today took place on Sachsenring circuit, with Marco Melandri setting fastest time of the day. Fractured collarbone did not stopped Melandri to go about half second faster than lap record set last year by Sete Gibernau. In first free practice sessio, which was wet in opening minutes, fastest man was Kenny Roberts Jr. All riders improved their times in second free practice session.
Second fastest rider today was Dani Pedrosa, 0.341 seconds behind Melandri. Loris Capirossi seems to be recovering very well, as he set third fastest time of the day. Nicky Hayden was 4th fastest, with Kenny Roberts Jr settling in 5th place. Suzuki rider John Hopkins edged Valentino Rossi for 6th place.
Casey Stoner finished day as 8th fastest, in front of returning Sete Gibernau. Makoto Tamada completed top 10 riders in free practice today. De Puniet suffered hard fall today, but fortunantelly escaped unijuried. Jose Luis Cardoso was another crasher today, with Valentino Rossi having small excursion from the track.
