Initial race 1 leader was Troy Corser, who was followed by team-mate Noriyuki Haga. James Toseland and MaxBiaggi were behind them, and soon they got in the front and madesignificant gap to the rest of the field. Biaggi and Toseland were inclose fight until lap 13, when Biaggi managed to get rid of theToseland and eventually win his debut WSBK race.

Behing Toseland, Lanzi ended race 1 in 3rd place, denying Alstare Corona Suzuki WSBK team double podium finish. Yukio Kagayama ended race in 4th place, in front of reigning WSBK champion, Troy Bayliss, who was unable to finish better than 5th.

James Toseland won second World Superbike race at Losail, moving into joint first place alongside Max Biaggi in the championship standings. Biaggi led the opening corners before Toseland took the lead, with Haga and Corser close behind. Biaggi slipped to fourth place by the end of the first lap but stayed with the pack of four riders who broke away from the chasing pack. He then took third place on lap five and second on lap seven, finally establishing the position on lap eleven.

Meanwhile Toseland had been lapping consistently at the front, opening up a two second gap which he held until the closing laps, when Biaggi closed to within 0.7 seconds. Toseland finished first, with Biaggi second and Corser third. Haga just held onto fourth place, ahead of Nieto, Kagayama, Lanzi and Bayliss.
