Unstoppable Marquez does stoppy at COTA

As it was clear from the first free practice, reigning world champion Marc Marquez had no real challenger for another 25 points in COTA. Spanish rider led race from flag to flag, eventually finishing 5 second clear from team mate Pedrosa, who once again had to quietly settle in second position. Surprise of the day came from Andrea Dovizioso, who edged German rider Stefan Bradl for final podium spot. Although third position for Dovizioso was partially due to disastrous result of Movistar Yamaha riders, it seems that Ducati is slowly making some steps forward after long time.

Bradley Smith made steady progress through the race to finish in great 5th place, while his team-mate Pol Espargaro scored great 6th place, four seconds behind Smith. Andrea Ianone shown his best ride in MotoGP so far, holding 3rd position for 15 laps before tyre performance drop forced him to slow down and loose 4 places before taking flag.

Similarly as Ianone, Valentino Rossi was the star of the first part of the race, as he was doing his trademark recovery from bad start to something that looked like certain 3rd place, when sudden grip loss hit right side of his front Bridgestone and forced him to drastically slow  the pace and end up in 8th position. Aleix Espargaro rode lonely race to 9th place.

Disaster of Movistar Yamaha team started at the start of the race, when Lorenzo did jump-start and had to do ride-through. Spanish rider then put his head down and finished race in 10th place, scoring symbolic 6 points as a reward for professionalism. Compared to perfect score of Marquez, Lorenzo's chances for 2014 MotoGP title already start to look like distant dream...
