Nicky Hayden in HollywoodNicky Hayden delighted hundreds of Los Angeles race fans on Tuesday as he made an appearance on Hollywood Boulevard ahead of this weekend’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. The 24-year-old star from Owensboro , Kentucky rode a Honda Fireblade specially painted in Repsol Honda colours along the famous street and signed autographs as part of a promotion for his home race at the Laguna Seca circuit. Hayden, who leads the MotoGP world championship by 26-points, was joined by fellow American riders Colin Edwards (Yamaha) and John Hopkins as well as Casey Stoner (Honda), Shinya Nakano (Kawasaki), Sete Gibernau (Ducati) and former Grand Prix winner Randy Mamola.

In the evening the riders were taken to the Paramount Studios for the first screening of a soon-to-be-released film about last year’s U.S. Grand Prix where Hayden scored his maiden MotoGP victory. The film’s title, The Doctor, The Tornado and The Kentucky Kid is based the nicknames of Valentino Rossi, Colin Edwards and Hayden – the top three finishers in the 2005 race.

I’m definitely proud to be leading the world championship going into my home race and so it was cool to see so many fans come out and cheer us on today, Hayden said afterwards. Winning the Grand Prix at Laguna last year was the best day of my life and the film brought back a few good memories.

Hayden then made the short flight north from Los Angeles to Monterey to begin preparations for Sunday’s 32-lap race. Practice at the re-surfaced track starts on Friday morning.
