2010-05-02  Jorge Lorenzo takes spectacular victory in Jerez
Be first to comment this story

Jorge Lorenzo beats Rossi and Pedrosa for victory in JerezJorge Lorenzo today achieved fantastic victory at his home track, Jerez. Lorenzo recovered from the bad start and built his way through the field to victory that seemed impossible in first part of the race. Dani Pedrosa, who led all but last lap of the race, had to settle in 2nd place. Valentino Rossi, who spent most of the race behind Pedrosa in second, finished race in 3rd. Rossi this way also lost championship lead to Lorenzo, but considering his shoulder problems, he seemed satisfied with race outcome.

Nicky Hayden put another fantastic performance and finished race in 4th in front of his team-mate, Stoner, proving that performance from Qatart was not coincidence. We expected much more from Stoner who finished race in distant 5th place, more than 10 seconds behind race winner. Hopefully Stoner will soon recover from psychological blow from Qatar and join big four again. Andrea Dovizioso finished race 13 seconds behind Stoner without anyone to fight with.

Interesting battle took place for 7th place, which included Mika Kallio, Melandri, de Puniet, Bautista and Simonceli. Battle finished in mentioned order, and it was nice to see Melandri back in action, fighting for top 10 result. Marko Simoncelli also demonstrated some of his tough moves we saw many times in 250s, but this time he had to settle in 11th place.

Two riders today failed to finish race - Loris Capirossi crashed in 3rd lap, while Ben Spies decided to retire from the race after he faced problems with front-end of his bike.
