2008-03-29  Jorge Lorenzo demolishes competitors in Jerez
Be first to comment this story

Jorge Lorenzo takes fantastic Jerez poleJorge Lorenzo has demolished his competition by taking his second pole position on his second MotoGP appearance, setting time that was 0.6 seconds clear of his bitter rival, Dani Pedrosa, and smashing previous pole record by around 1 second. First man to use qualifiers was Randy de Puniet - but rest of the season was just Lorenzo show - on every outing, he managed to improve his pole position time. Dani Pedrosa was unable to get out of shadow of his rookie rival, and on his home circuit it is something that must hurt young Honda rider. Colin Edwards took last spot in first row, after stunning everyone with amazing crash-saving attempt early in the session.

Nicky Hayden utilized his 2008 RC212V to qualify in 4th place, in front of Valentino Rossi, who was fastest Bridgestone qualifier in Jerez. Rossi had to quit his last qualifying attempt due to problems with his Yamaha. Randy de Puniet, who had crash during the session, completed second row.

Casey Stoner continued to struggle in Jerez and qualified as 7th on track that obviously does not suit him or his Ducati. James Toseland, despite health problems, managed to grab 8th spot on the grid. John Hopkins wrestled his Kawasaki to 9th spot, in front of Loris Capirossi in 10th.
