2005-07-11  MotoGP race: Hayden wins USGP

Assen podium finishers: Hayden,Edwards,RossiAmerican rider Nicky Hayden brought his Repsol Honda to first place at his home GP race in Laguna Seca, track he knows well from AMA championship. After fantastic start, Hayden led the race to the end, never being in danger of loosing it.

At the end of lap 1, Rossi get into second, staying there until lap 16, when Edwards caught him and started chasing Hayden. However, in closing stages of the race, his tyre wear out and he had to satisfy with second place. Rossi was unable to match pace of race leaders and finished race in 3rd place.

Max Biaggi had lot of making up to do after unlucky start of the race, and finally managed to finish in 4th. In great battle for 5th place, three riders were involved: Gibernau, Bayliss and Tamada. Gibernau was winner of this battle, finishing in 5th, in front of Bayliss and Tamada.

John Hopkins finished in 8th place, just in front of Nakano in 9th. Loris Capirossi completed top ten finishers, bringing another mid-field finish for Ducati. Unfortunantelly, His team mate, Checa, crashed in first half of the race while being on a good paste. Another crasher was Marco Melandri, who is still second in championship, but 79 points behind Rossi.

British rider Shakey Burns took first points for KTM powered KR machine by finishing race in 15th.
