2007-06-01 Free practice report - Mugello day 1
Be first to comment this story
First day of free practice in Mugello saw mixed weather conditions, as well as different riders on the top of timesheets in both free practices. Dani Pedrosa was quickest in first free practice, in front of Home favourite, Valentino Rossi. Casey Stoner was fastest in second, wet free practice, setting pace together with two other Bridgestone riders, Hopkins and Vermeulen.
Dani Pedrosa proved that he is the one of the riders best suited to Mugello by setting fastest time in first free practice, still about 0.6 seconds under lap record set by Max Biaggi in 2005. Valentino Rossi was right behind Pedrosa in FP1, and today he suffered off-track excursion in FP1 and crash in FP2, fortunantelly without any injuries. Rossi was best Michelin rider in wet in 4th place. John Hopkins shown great performance in both free practices, being third fastest in FP1 and 2nd in FP2. Chris Vermeulen was once again fast in wet conditions, setting 3rd fastest time in FP2.
Casey Stoner was fastest in FP2, which took place under heavy rain, while he was 4th in first free practice, showing that he will be once again man to beat. Kenny Roberts Jr was fast in the wet (5th), while he was far behind at the tail of timesheets if dry FP1, together with brother Kurtis Robers, who was introduced as second rider for team KR.
Heavy rain in FP2 prevented rider from refining setup for Sunday's race, and we are hoping for better weather tomorrow.
