2006-03-25  MotoGP: Ducati duo fastest in Jerez

Loris Capirossi on pole in JerezLoris Capirossi today dominated most of the Qualifying session for Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, and set new qualification record of 1.39.064. Capirossi set new lap record in the middle of the session, and improved it twice from then, sealing it in last minute of qualifying.

Weather condition were great for qualifying, but in third minute, qualifying was red-flagged as Alex Hofmann had failure on his Ducati and spilled oil on the track, which caused five riders to crash. Rossi was first one to crash, Followed by both Kawasakis of Nakano and De Puniet, with Kenny Roberts and Melandri completing fellowship of the oil crashers. All riders were lucky to escape uninjured, and after about 20 minutes qualifying continued.

Sete Gibernau completed success of the Ducati team by Qualifying second on the grid, with superb Shinya Nakano once more showing great progress made on Ninja ZX-RR in third position on the grid. Nicky Hayden was best Honda qualifier, in front of team-mate, Dani Pedrosa. Toni Elias completed second row in 6th place.

Marco Melandri ended qualifying in 7th place, in front of Kawasaki rookie Randy De Puniet. Valentino Rossi was unable to solve vibration problems on his Yamaha and qualified only as 9th. Colin Edwards completed top ten qualifiers today.
