Dani Pedrosa once again demonstrated determination and speed, taking pole position by significant margin of three tenths of a second in front of Jorge Lorenzo. Casey Stoner took third position on the grid despite falling at the end of the first third of the session.

Valentino Rossi was once again pushed to second row, managing to get only 4th place on his home track. Ben Spies was really fast once again, finishing 0.002 seconds behind Rossi in 5th position. Randy de Puniet recovered enough to take great 6th place.

Colin Edwards took 7th place on the grid, in front of two domestic riders - Dovizioso and Simoncelli. Marco Melandri completed top 10 qualifiers in Misano, also being first rider outside of a second of Pedrosa's time.
