Dani Pedrosa today performed one of his well known runaway races, as he stormed into the lead from lap one and gave his rivals no chance of catching him. Pedrosa demonstrated race pace that was far better from one that his rivals were riding at, setting new race record of 1:42.358 in lap 4. Only Valentino Rossi came close to that pace while trying to catch leaders after terrible start from 9th place on the grid, but when he reached second place, Pedrosa was already more than 6 seconds ahead. Rossi then had to lead for second place battle with Casey Stoner, exchanging in that position few times and eventually securing it with 2 laps to go. Casey Stoner settled in 3rd place, taking some valuable points in his title defense.
Fantastic performance came from Andrea Dovizioso, who rode fantastic race and finished in 4th place, equaling his best yet result from Qatar. Colin Edwards finished in solid 5th, in front of his team-mate, James Toseland, who managed to defend his position from Chris Vermeulen. Vermeulen ruined his good qualifying results by bad start which saw him ending lap 1 in 13th place, and he had to use his great race pace to catch up for much lower positions than he deserved. Nicky Hayden proved that qualifying position he set was not matched by his race-pace, and he finished in 8th place. Shinya Nakano got another top 10 finish in 9th place, in front of John Hopkins who rode around pain to complete top 10 finishers in Catalunya.
After Catalunya, Dani Pedrosa has managed to reduce championship deficit to Valentino Rossi to just 7 points, while Casey Stoner closed gap to Jorge Lorenzo in 3rd place to just 2 points. After this race, we may be sure that 2008 will be one of most exciting MotoGP seasons ever.
