Dani Pedrosa was the fastest rider of the both free practice sessions in Catalunya. Pedrosa shaved more than half second from first free practice in second session to set fastest time of the day - 1:43.017, which is already 0.021 seconds better than time set by Nicky Hayden in race 2 years ago. Loris Capirossi was one of riders that improved the most in FP2, as he rode 1.2 seconds faster than in FP1 to set second time of the day, just 0.006 seconds slower than Pedrosa. Valentino Rossi brought his Fiat-Yamaha in Azzurri colors to 3rd spot on timesheets. Casey Stoner completed pack of 4 riders separated by just 0.08 seconds.
Obviously continuing his great form from Mugello, Alex De Angelis was 5th fastest, in front of Chris Vermeulen and Shinya Nakano. Rookie James Toseland was 8th fastest, in front of more experienced Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards.
Free practices in Spain brought lot of crashes today, with specially hard one coming again from Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo had nasty highside followed by unpleasant journey through gravel-trap, and first results are indicating that he has sustained fractured right ring finger and an ankle contusion. John Hopkins also received his dose of highside, just to mention worst cases. In total, 8 riders today finished in gravel or crashed, showing how tricky Catalunya is.
