Colin Edwards grabs maiden pole at Le MansColin Edwards today scored his first pole position in MotoGP career, being third rider today to break pole position record set last year by Dani Pedrosa. Colin Edwards did his fastest lap in last seconds of qualifying session, setting fantastic lap of 1.33.616, just one tenth in front of second placed Casey Stoner. Carlos Checa will start from 3rd position on the grid tomorrow at Le Mans.

In first part of the qualifying practice, it was battle between Casey Stoner and John Hopkins for top spot. Two riders were exchanged in first place, with Dani Pedrosa joining them bit latter. After just 13 minutes of practice session, Hopkins was first man to dig under 1.35. Trio was soon joined by Colin Edwards, who also managed to get under 1.35.

Kawasaki continued tradition of early use of qualifying tyres, with Randy de Puniet putting qualifiers on his Ninja ZX-RR just after 20 minutes of practice. Pleasant surprise also came from Sylvian Gyntoli, who get top spot on timesheets with 18 minutes to go.

Real action started with 15 minutes to go, with Carlos Checa being first to set fastest time, just few thousands over 1.34 mark. Checa managed to improve his time 8 minutes before the end of the session, setting new circuit record, before he was sent back by Stoner, and then by Edwards in flying lap.

Valentino Rossi continued to struggle in qualifying, setting 4th time in qualifying, but still lacking race pace. John Hopkins qualified 5th, but despite not having so great starting position, American seems to have great race set-up. Toni Elias completed second row for tomorrow's Grand Prix of France.

Nicky Hayden continued to work hard today, setting 7th time in qualifying, in front of de Puniet, who continued string of mature rides. Marco Melandri ended qualifying in 9th, in front of Dani Pedrosa who completed top 10 qualifiers at Le Mans.
