2007-06-29  Chris Vermeulen gets wet Dutch pole
Be first to comment this story

Chris Vermeulen on his way to Assen poleChris Vermeulen once again has shown his skills in rainy conditions, as he took pole position in Assen today. This was second consecutive pole position on the Dutch track for Rizla Suzuki team. Casey Stoner powered his Ducati Desmosedici to second position on the grid, perfect position to defend 26 points championship lead that he has over nearest rival, Valentino Rossi. Randy de Puniet continued his strike of good results as he qualified in 3rd position.

Best Honda rider today was Marco Melandri, powering his Bridgestone shoed Honda to 4th place. Last year pole-man, John Hopkins, qualified in 5th for tomorrow's race. Best Michelin rider in Assen rain was American Colin Edwards, who managed to qualify in 6th place. Anthony West once again proved his talent as he qualified in respectable 7th, in front of another rider who we did not used to see inside top 10 - Alex Hofmann. Dani Pedrosa was second and last Michelin rider inside top 10 - in 9th position. Loris Capirossi completed top 10 Assen qualifiers.

Valentino Rossi will certainly have lot of job to do tomorrow, as he qualified in 11th place, which is not place from which you want to start race and fight for top result. However, we have seen so many times that grid position is not crucial for Italian, so we may expect tough fight tomorrow.
