Casey Stoner seemed quite determined to beat competition on his home soil, taking pole position with time way ahead of his competitors - only Jorge Lorenzo managed to stay within a second of a pole-setter. Today was also 25th birthday of Casey Stoner, and pole position he achieved was also 25th. Ben Spies was third fastest qualifier, taking front row for a third time in his first full MotoGP season.

Marco Simoncelli achieved best qualifying position by taking 4th position, in front of American pair of Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden. Randy de Puniet heads 3rd row, in front of Rossi, who had unlucky qualifying session and ended in worst position on the grid this season. Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Melandri completed top 10 qualifiers at Philip Island.
