Casey Stoner takes chequered flag at Phillip Island, celebrating victoryCasey Stoner finally managed to return to top step of the podium at his home soil at Phillip Island, taking dominant victory. Casey Stoner led race from the start to the end, being followed by Nicky Hayden in first part of the race, but then disappeared in the distance and finished 6 seconds in front of Rossi, who made his way to second position from the 12th place on the grid. Nicky Hayden lost second position in last lap, completing Phillip Island podium on the final step.

Great battle we saw for 4th place, with Toseland, Nakano, Lorenzo and Dovizioso being involved into the fight. James Toseland looked set for best result of the season, as he was strong in 3rd, defending that position from charging Rossi for few laps in the middle of the race. However, Rossi came try, and at the end of the race, Jorge Lorenzo took 4th position, Shinya Nakano sneaked from the tail of the 4 rider train to 5th place, while Toseland took his usual 6th place. Andrea Dovizioso once again shown promising form in the battle, but it faded as race entered it final phase and he ended in 7th place.

Colin Edwards took 8th place in front of Randy de Puniet, while Loris Capirossi completed top 10 Phillip Island finishers. In first lap, Dani Pedrosa crashed and finished Phillip Island appearance. From other crashers, there was Alex de Angelis, who crashed few meters from Rossi and it was pure luck that Rossi managed to avoid Honda rider. Second place in the championship now looks almost secured for Casey Stoner, as he leads Dani Pedrosa by 36 points with two races to go.
