Casey Stoner took pole position on his home soil for the first time in his career, setting new Phillip Island qualifying lap record of 1:28.665. Stoner denied Jorge Lorenzo chance to take second consecutive pole position, while Nicky Hayden continued string of good qualifying results and completed front row of Phillip Island qualifiers.
Randy de Puniet shown great performance in qualifying and set 4th fastest time, while James Toseland equaled his best MotoGP qualifying result by taking 5th spot on the grid. Dani Pedrosa continued adaptation for Bridgestone qualifying tyres by taking 6th place on the grid. Colin Edwards is heading 3rd row, in front of two Hondas of Andrea Dovizioso and Shinya Nakano. Alex De Angelis completed top 10 qualifiers at Phillip Island.

Valentino Rossi qualified in 12th place, as he suffered crash 15 minutes before the end of the practice, suffering knock in the neck in progress. Rossi managed to return to the track and take 12th position, and he will be able to participate in tomorrow's race.
