2007-04-22 Casey Stoner takes another dominant victory in Istanbul

 Casey Stoner today took second victory of the 2007 MotoGP season, more than 6 seconds in front of Impressive Toni Elias. Valentino Rossi had great start from pole position, and was joined in the lead by his team-mate, Colin Edwards. However, Rossi made mistake in first lap, dropping to 5th place, and letting Stoner and Capirossi to lead.
Real dramma for some of Championship top riders started in first lap, when Olivier Jacque fell and picked Pedrosa, Edwards and Vermeulen with him. Vermeulen managed to return to the bike, while race ended at this point for Edwards and Pedrosa.
Meanwhile, Casey Stoner started setting his own pace and got into confortable lead, followed by Capirossi. Rossi started making his way through the field, eventually getting into second place. However, this was not end of dramma, as Rossi started loosing places, probably due to tyre problems, eventually finishing race in distant 10th place.
From the back of the pack, Elias made his way through, picked rider by rider and finished race in second place. Capirossi had his ups and downs in the race, but managed to find his pace in closing stages of the race and finish in respectable 3rd place.
Alex Barros was big surprise of the race, as he found his way through the field to finish in fantastic 4th place on d'Antin Ducati. Marco Melandri once more proved that Istanbul circuit suits him, as he recovered from 14th on the grid to 5th in the race.
John Hopkins was one of main protagonists of the first half of the race, where he was close to podium, but as race progressed he lost some places and eventually finished in 6th. Hayden once more shown mid-pack performance and finished race in 7th, showing that title defense for American is possible just in theory.
De Puniet rode solid race and ended in 8th place, having pleasure to overtake Rossi for this position. Another rider whoose dream of overtaking Rossi came true was Alex Hofmann, who took 9th place. Rossi completed top 10 finishers in Istanbul, probably wondering what happened.
