Casey Stoner made fantastic recovery from bad start to claim fifth victory of the season at rainy Donington park in front of around 60,000 fans. Colin Edwards took advantage of pole position to get right behind inital race leader Pedrosa from the start of the race, getting in front of Pedrosa in lap 4 and eventually losing first in lap 15 from Stoner, finishing race in fantastic second. Chris Vermeulen once again proved that he is the master of rainy conditions, finishing in 3rd place, which he took from Valentino Rossi in closing stages of the race.
Valentino Rossi once again had bad start of the race, which looked like sign of another disaster for Italian rider, which dropped from 3rd place in lap 1 to 8th place in lap 4. However, from that point Rossi started recovery, gaining places and going for (at least) podium finish. In lap 12, he was already in 3rd place, setting his eye on leaders, but soon he made mistake which costed him lot of time and almost dropped him out of race. As track started drying out, tyres came into the play, an soon we saw Rossi getting into the trouble and in lap 27 dropping to 4th place, where he eventually finished race.
John Hopkins had another solid race, riding constantly in the top 5, and finishing race in 5th place. Randy de Puniet was this time more cautious, and he managed to finish race in slippery Donington in decent 6th place. Dani Pedrosa was initial race leader, and he looked really strong at start, but soon he started loosing places to finish race in dissapointing 7th place. Alex Barros ended race in 8th, after loosing battle with Pedrosa for 7th. Alex Hofmann scored another top 10 finish by ending race in 9th, in front of Marco Melandri, who completed top 10 Donington finishers.
After Donington, Casey Stoner has extended his championship lead to Valentino to 26 points. Dani Pedrosa is still in 3rd place, now 33 points behind Rossi. By taking 3rd place today, Chris Vermeulen popped up to 4th place in championship, in front of team-mate Hopkins in 5th.
