2008-06-07 Casey Stoner steals pole from Dani Pedrosa

Showing gradual improvement in form in last few races, defending MotoGP champion Casey Stoner today reached form that was usual for him last year, and took pole position in last seconds of the Catalan qualifying. Stoner set new pole position record of 1:41.186, edging Dani Pedrosa for just 0.083 seconds. Nicky Hayden was quarter of a second slower than Stoner in 3rd, starting from a front row after a while.
Randy De Puniet was early pole setter and managed to take place of the best satellite Honda. Colin Edwards was also fast today, lookin as he will be able to take pole at some point, but eventually had to settle in 5th place. James Toseland was last rider inside previous pole position record set last year by Valentino Rossi.
Andrea Dovizioso is heading third row in front of Chris Vermeulen and Valentino Rossi. Rossi was today unable to make strong qualifying today, and will have lot of work to do tomorrow in order to catch his main rivals, Pedrosa and Stoner. Alex De Angelis completed top 10 qualifiers in Montmelo today.
