Casey Stoner sets fastest time in FP1 in Laguna Seca Casey Stoner started another weekend with outstanding result, as he broke Laguna Seca lap record in first free practice session on American circuit. Stoner set time of 1:21.915, which was 0.764 seconds better than time set by his closest competitor, Valentino Rossi, who was also only man inside one second of time set by Stoner. Rossi was 0.274 seconds faster than surprisingly fast Shinya Nakano.

Chris Vermeulen once again shown that his track suits him, as he set 4th fastest time of the FP1, looking to repeat his podium position from last year. It was nice to see Marco Melandri in form again, as he set 5th time on one of his favorite tracks. Nicky Hayden was best Michelin rider in Laguna Seca in FP1 in 6th place.

Despite never before ridding in Laguna Seca, Andrea Dovizioso once again impressed by posting 7th time of the session. Another rider returning to the top 10 in timesheets after nightmare season was Toni Elias in 8th place. Colin Edwards utilized knowledge of his home circuit to 9th place, while Alex De Angelis completed top 10.

American wild-card riders, Ben Spies and Jamie Hacking were just outside top 10, in 11th and 12th place, respectively, having small incidents in the progress.  Dani Pedrosa rode put 21 laps under his RC212V today, but he was still in last position, 4 seconds of the time set by Stoner.
