2008-06-22  Casey Stoner returns to winning ways in Donington

Casey Stoner wins in Donington ParkAs we used to see last year, Casey Stoner transformed his dominant pre-race performance into fantastic victory, leading race from the start to finish, making his rivals wondering what they can expect in next races. Stoner finished race around six seconds in front of Valentino Rossi, who was unable to follow the rhythm of MotoGP champion, but also had lot of trouble to defend from attacks of Dani Pedrosa, who finished race in 3rd place.

There is not much to say about Casey Stoner's way to victory - he was in control from the word go, and it was clear all the way to the finish that he will win. Real battle in this race was for second place, where Dani Pedrosa challenged Rossi for second step on the podium, managing to get in front two times. Rossi was aware that he should not let Pedrosa in front of him, and both times responded promptly, breaking rhythm of Spaniard who still seems to miss edge when it comes to battle. With few laps remaining in the race Pedrosa give up from the fight and settled in 3rd place, now 4 more points behind Rossi in championship.

Fantastic 4th place came from Colin Edwards, who gained positions from lap to lap to finish as best satellite Yamaha. Andrea Dovizioso has shown early promise in the race as he briefly got into second place in opening laps, but he had not enough power in his satellite Honda to fight with factory bikes and finished in great 5th. That 5th place of Dovizioso seemed like final target for recovering Jorge Lorenzo, who found his way from distant 17th on the grid to 6th at the end of the race.

Nicky Hayden, who was in leading group in opening laps of the race, started loosing ground as race progressed and finally ended in 7th after interesting battle with Chris Vermeulen. Vermeulen finished in 8th, in front of Shinya Nakano. Anthony West shown improvement by finishing in 10th place, while his team-mate Hopkins had another engine failure and finished race outside the track.

Home hero James Toseland could not resist to the pressure of the home race and dropped bike in first corner, but managed to remount and finish race in last, 17th place.
