2008-06-20  Casey Stoner dominates day 1 at Donington Park
Be first to comment this story

Casey Stoner returns to the top at Donington ParkCasey Stoner today had one of those dominant days which we remember from last year, as he set fastest times in both first and second free practice session in Donington Park today. Stoner was more than half second faster than Nicky Hayden, who took opportunity to be first Honda rider to ride pneumatic-valve version of the RC212V. Valentino Rossi improved from 8th in FP1 to 3rd place in FP2, as he found improvement in set-up on slippery Donington circuit.

Colin Edwards was fast in both sessions, finishing day on one of his favorite circuits in 4th. Alex De Angelis was last of the riders to go under 1.29 bracket today. Dani Pedrosa was 6th fastest rider of the day, crashing in FP2 and escaping uninjured from the crash. Shinya Nakano was 7th fastest in string of Honda riders. Home rider, James Toseland, failed to impress (except maybe British journalists) finishing day in 8th. Chris Vermeulen was 9th, while Randy De Puniet completed top 10 fastest riders in first day of free practice in Donington park.

Ben Spies, who rides as replacement for injured Loris Capirossi, did not ended day in last place - as always, that place was reserved for on of satellite Ducati's, this time one of Guintoli. Jorge Lorenzo took cautious approach to the free practice today and ended in unusual 16th place, but we are sure that tomorrow he will not be that cautious.
