2007-07-13 Casey Stoner dominates day 1 at Sachsenring

 MotoGP Championship leader Casey Stoner found right set-up for Sachsenring track from a word Go, as he set fastest times in both free practice sessions at German track today. Even in first free practice session, Stoner set new lap record of 1.23.058 , improving it in second free practice session and being the only rider to lap under 1.23 margin. Valentino Rossi was second fastest rider today, 0.346 seconds off the time set by Casey Stoner, gradually improving through both sessions. Dani Pedrosa was best Honda rider today in 3rd, 0.6 seconds from Casey Stoner's time. Unlike Pedrosa, his team-mate Hayden had tough day, suffering engine failure and ending day in distant 16th place.
Sylvian Guintoli was surprise of the day, as he piloted his Dunlop shoed Yamaha YZR-M1 to 4th fastest time of the day. Carlos Checa was 5th fastest today, in front of Marco Melandri in 6th. Alex Barros managed to set 7th time, despite suffering nasty crash in FP1, and entering FP2 with stitches and bruises. Colin Edwards was 8th, in front of John Hopkins, who dropped down the order after 3rd place in FP1. Randy de Puniet completed top 10 fastest riders in Sachsenring today.
