Casey Stoner continued to set pace in Qatar, but this time he was closely followed by bunch of rookies. From what we saw in second free practice, it seems that everything may be turned around in MotoGP, with new riders coming to form fast. Second fastest time was set by Jorge Lorenzo, who piloted his Michelin shod Yamaha on a high pace, just 0.011 seconds slower than Stoner. James Toseland was another rookie in the top, 0.359 seconds behind Lorenzo. Colin Edwards completed success of the Tech 3 Yamaha team, with Andrea Dovizioso being another rookie on the mission.
Alex de Angelis was 6th fastest, in front of Randy de Puniet and Chris Vermeulen. Valentino Rossi had another bad session, setting only 9th time and causing Pedrosa to crash and possibly finish racing weekend with restored injury. Another crasher was Anthony West, who had nasty fall, but it seems that he escaped it without injuries. Loris Capirossi completed second free practice in not so noticed 10th place.
