Race in Jerez today get unexpected start for reigning world champion, Valentino Rossi. In the first corner of the opening lap, Toni Elias hit last wheel of Rosis Yamaha and Rossi was thrown out of the race. Although managing to rejoin race some 30 seconds behind last rider, Rossi was unable to make miracle on damaged bike and managed only to pick two points at the end of the race.
Rossi was not only dissappointed man today, as very soon we saw Sete Gibernau retiring from second position due to problems with his Ducati Desmosedici. However, things were much better for his team-mate, Capirossi, who led race from the start to the end. Capirossi opened two second gap to the rest of the riders just after few laps, but soon rookie star Dani Pedrosa managed to go through to second position and started chasing him. Pedrosa managed to close gap to just few tenths of a second to Capirossi, but few laps before the end it seems that he lost his strength and finished race in second place.
Nicky Hayden spent most of the race in 3rd place, but as race was comming to the end, charging Elias stated threatening to take third place from him, but this time he was unable to do so, finishing in 4th on his Honda race debut. Marco Melandri finished in lonely 5th place, in front of another rookie, Casey Stoner, who beat Kawasaki rider Shinya Nakano for 6th place.
John Hopkins spent most of the race in lonely 8th place, but just before end of the race, he lost this position from his ex team-mate, Kenny Roberts. Makoto Tamada Completed top ten race finishers.
Todays race really seemed as beggining of the new era in MotoGP racing, as it launched lot of young and fast riders in front of their more experienced competitors. Dani Pedrosa proved his incredible talent by finishing his debut race in second place, and promissing more to come in comming races. From what we saw today, this will be one of most exciting seasons ever in MotoGP!
